Manny brings an extensive career as an Insurance and Risk Management leader. His career began in the United States Navy as a shipboard firefighter and damage control officer. Upon discharge he joined the Fire Department at NASA, Jet Propulsion Laboratories in Pasadena, CA, and subsequently joined the California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection as a Deputy State Fire Marshal.
While working within the Fire Service, Manny earned a B.S. Degree in Fire Protection and Masters in Public Administration.
The experiences as a Deputy State Fire Marshal exposed him to Fire Inspections, Arson & Bomb Investigations, Fire & Building Code compliance, Plan Check, new construction and Training. He interacted with City/County Fire Authorities throughout California including many state agencies including the Governor’s Office, The California Film Commission and the Motion Picture & Television Industry. An
effort to bring about change in regulation, compliance and training within a $28B film business.
These efforts led him to Aon Entertainment Insurance, where he served as Vice President, Production Risk Management. Manny was assigned to work with Aon’s client, The Walt Disney Studios where he assessed risk exposures within every film/tv script at Disney. Manny worked on over 200 film/tv productions globally, interacted with Filmmakers, Studio Executives, created OSHA IIPP safety programs, investigated incidents and was one of a very few professionals who initiated industry-wide safety
protocols within the major studios, unions and guilds.
In 2007 Manny accepted a position with Carnival Corporation (Legal Dept.) where he lead the Insurance & Risk Management Department which procured $80M in corporate insurance policies, claim management, reviewed vendor contract risks, M&A, incident management and risk assessments within a large fleet of ships/brands, ports and shore excursions worldwide.
In 2020, the Covid impact on the cruise business was devastating. Manny accepted an opportunity with Edison International (a CA Utility Corporation) where he served as Principal Manager, Insurance Risk Finance. He lead a team that procured corporate insurance policies ($480M), managed claims, vendor contract risks, incidents, conducted operational risk assessments to assets and prepared complex Wildfire Mitigation Plans.
Manny is a family man and is an avid cyclist. Staying healthy is a huge priority, so is having fun at work, home and with family and friends.
